Experience of the Salvation Army Band
Lymington : Saturday November 6th 2010
Until last Saturday night at a church in Lymington I have to admit I had never been to a full performance of a Salvation Army Band! My main recollection of Salvation Army Bands tended to be in high streets at Christmas time or at fairs where I had listened to snippets of their playing.
Their performance on Saturday was of an exceptionally high standard. Included in their pieces was a marching tune, a famous church hymn, a classical piece and various solos. The talent of the band was really quite incredible; so much so I leaned over to the person who had brought me and whispered Do they ever compete? to which she replied: No, they don't tend to do that kind of thing; it's really all for God!
The evening was thoroughly enjoyable and I would recommend anyone of any age group to try it out for themselves. My favourite piece was Quintessence which was written to describe the early day pioneering of the Christian work in Australia.
