On Saturday evening, after completing more than 17 years as the Bandmaster of the Boscombe Band, Howard Evans retired from that position. It was fitting that the final piece that he conducted embodied all that he deemed important in the role of a Salvation Army Band. In Quiet Pastures has been part of the Band's repertoire for a number of years and it comes from the pen of Ray Steadman-Allen - a salvationist composer whose music and influence has a very special place in Howard's life.

We are now into the third month of 2019 and the band are looking forward to a busy few weeks leading up to Easter. As always the first couple of months of the year have been a time to look at new repertoire and prepare for the year ahead.

Each year our open rehearsal gives our reservists and friends an opportunity to hear some new repertoire and to join us in some fellowship and refreshments. This year we will also have the launch of our new CD - An Easter Tale. This timely recording presents words and music for Easter week - from Palm Sunday through to Easter Sunday and the resurrection of Jesus.

It was with sadness that we heard of the Promotion to Glory this week of Keith Varley - and our prayers go out to Kath and the family at this time. Although his illness had prevented him from taking an active part over the last few months, Keith was still very much a part of our Band right up until this week.
